INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE (Champissage)

History  What is Indian Head Massage?

Benefits and Effects  What to Expect

What to expect on your first Indian Head Massage treatment?

The session will begin by the therapist taking a detailed medical history, followed with questions about your lifestyle, your diet and your health problems.  (This therapy is extremely safe and effective but there are certain conditions which may present contra-indications, for example, high temperature or fever, skin infections on the head, neck or shoulders, recent surgery or head injury, or a severe circulatory disorder.  This is not a definitive list there are other conditions where it is inadvisable to carry out Indian Head Massage.)

An Indian Head Massage generally starts with the client sitting in a comfortable chair for the duration of the massage.    There is no need to remove clothing but a cotton top or T shirt is probably the most comfortable thing to wear.  If you would prefer to remove your top or T shirt and wrap a towel around your upper body this is acceptable and a towel will be provided for your use.

Treatment normally begins with a deep kneading and probing of the neck and shoulder muscles - at times similar to Osteopathy but with no crunching or cracking of joints.  The head is then worked with the scalp being squeezed, rubbed, gently tapped and prodded.  The hair is briskly tussled and gently combed.    Pressure points are gently worked on and the ears are tugged and pressed.  Lastly the therapist will move to the face, working with acupressure points to help relieve any sinus pressure, stimulate the circulation and increase alertness.   The face is also very gently stroked.

A small amount of oil will be applied to the hair and very gently massaged into the scalp to incorporate the oil and promote the healing effect the oil brings to the hair and scalp.  The oil will be chosen to treat the client’s specific conditions.   (Many of my clients prefer to have a ‘dry’ treatment and not to have this beneficial treatment.)   Some ‘chakra’ work will be included towards the end of the treatment.

The first session will take approximately 60 minutes, including the pre-treatment consultation, but subsequent treatments should take between 30-45 minutes.

Following treatment you will feel calm and relaxed and able to take on whatever comes your way!
