What is Swedish Body Massage?

Swedish Body Massage is a technique by which we can enjoy and savour the benefits of touch and encourage change.   It is one of the best ways of achieving and maintaining good health.

Massage softens and enhances the skin, improving tone and texture and is effective for most ailments.   It is designed to stimulate blood circulation and aids the uptake of oxygen.   It speeds up lymphatic circulation, improving the elimination of toxins.   It also eases knotted tense muscles, reduces aches and pains and dissipates stress and stored nervous tension.  It soothes and calms the nervous system and induces relaxation.   Massage can also be directed more specifically at strengthening the body.

Massage consists of working thoroughly and systematically over the entire body concentrating on different muscle groups and limbs, one at a time.   Movements, such as effleurage work over the skin with the palm of the hand thereby producing relaxation, moving on to kneading, wringing and pummelling strokes, (petrissage), which work deeper into the body tissue, to faster tapping and hacking movements, (tapotement).
